Infrastructure projects can require some pretty massive heavy equipment to perform all necessary tasks, so it’s a great opportunity to get some stunning footage of the machines and workers during the process.
During the ongoing build of an Avon, Connecticut bridge, the ROTHA Contracting Company had to lift and place five 145,000 pound, 135-foot-long support beams. Put your telehandlers away for this task; it requires some big guns.
To assist in lifting the massive beams, ROTHA opted to use the Liebherr LTM 1500–8.1 mobile crane, which has a maximum load capacity of 600 tons. Its telescoping boom can reach a max height of 276 feet, while the lattice jib can reach 299 feet.
The 8 axle crane may be big, but it can reach a top driving speed of 53mph for relatively easy movement to and from the jobsite. That’s more than can be said for the World’s Largest Crane, which moves at a snails pace, but is still pretty impressive for its massive size.
